I TAUGHT IT WAS OVER; THE END OF A NEW BEGINNING

In-house publication by: Onehi Mary - Student

It seemed like only yesterday when I passed through the gate of St John's secondary school, carrying our writing materials for the common entrance examination. Nursing mixed feelings of excitement and confusion then, we resumed, clutching very tightly to our belongings because the only face you could recognized amidst hundreds, at least, on the first resumption was yours.

Humph I can't forget the mixed uniforms and faces you see on the compound. Then, came a period when all you could see on the compound were only recommended school uniforms, and all you listened were the authoritative commands of the senior students ordering you around like you are no longer entitled to your personal rights. The bells also took over in regulating your activities. Only time we would love to hear the bell is break time. You go to the garage and eat. The worst bell, was labour time by 4pm-5.30pm. Soon, however, faces became familiar, even senior students became regular customers. Teachers became close parent and school in general became a home. I can hardly forget the times when the first external exams were to be written. St John's Amoke is a place where a good Rapport exists between teachers and students. They mould your character to make sure it suit future responsibilities and the acceptable standard.

Then came a day when we have to quit school after junior WAEC and we were pelted by mixed feelings. It was going to be a break. Confusion hung in the air. The faces you once thought to be strange were now the faces you didn't want to let go.... You did not know whether or not your friend will come back in SS1. However, a fresh phase of the fun and struggle was born when we arrived at school from the holidays. It was time for weaning juniors to become seniors. Leaving St John's is just like breaking up with your beloved partner. "what a bad good"!! But there is time for everything though..... Time to come to St. John's and time to leave. I really can't believe it's over too good and too bad to break up... but that's the pattern of life. so in royal and loyal lamentation I say 'I cant believe it's over' !!the end of a new beginning ST JOHN'S SECONDARY SCHOOL AMOKE MY SECOND HOME! I'M PROUD OF YOU!".
